Small sum can save a child’s life

New campaign against mass death

Is it true that 3,000 children die from malaria EACH DAY? Yes, it's true. Is it true that 60 Crowns (less than USD 7) is enough to protect one child? Yes, also that is true.

In report after report, our jeep-doctors repeat that malaria is the most widespread disease, along with AIDS. Now the Doctor Bank starts a new campaign to mainly save children from the mass death caused by mosquitoes. The prescription is simple: mosquito nets.

If all children in Africa and other tropical areas would sleep under mosquito nets, we would never have to see this horrifying death toll.

The Doctor Bank never gives money, but out jeep-doctors gladly give away mosquito nets, which are received with heartfelt gratitude.

Dr Henning Engberg, from Malung, Sweden, says after 1000 patients in six weeks: "More than a third of the patients had malaria. Mosquito nets are the only sure protection."

He had 90 nets with him, a gift from Malung RC.

Contributing to mosquito nets is to save lives, just as is helping people get clean drinking water. Please use the payment form on the last page to be a part of this.

We approach a million!

The Nordic Club Championship to collect money for the Doctor Bank, which we announced in the previous issue of the newsletter, has come so far that we approach 1 million Swedish Crowns (USD 116,000). When we reach this milestone, we will announce the winner of this stage: the club that raised the most gets to select one of its members who may along with their "other half" travel with a doctor to Africa and follow the work of the Rotary Doctors. When they later return home, they will describe their experiences for club members and others.

Imagine …

that each Rotarian in Sweden donates a weekly allowance of 10 Crowns (just over a dollar)-then the Doctor Bank would receive 15 million Crowns (USD 1.7 million) per year-and twice that if all Nordic Rotarians were to participate!

Two this come the gifts from individuals, fund-raising from events, and the revenue from sales of rotograms, etc.

Then the Doctor Bank would:

When we now soon -- we hope! -- reach the first million, we start again with the same chance for all clubs, and the same feeling of joy to be able to do something to directly help poor and sick people.
